Do narcs know they are a narcissist?

I’m curious if narcissists know they are narcissists. Do they at least understand something is wrong with them? That there is some kind of problem?

Narcissists do not believe they are the problem, they believe everyone else is the problem and to blame. They don’t self reflect for the same reasons you and I may, they reflect on why they are not getting their way and what manipulation they need to apply to make that happen.

Their behaviors serve them, it’s how they get what they want. It won’t look logical, but it works for them and everyone around them enables their narcissism. They choose people in their life on purpose. Plus we live in a world that rewards narcissism. People are able to behave badly and be rewarded for it.

Add this with a lack of empathy towards anyone’s viewpoint or feelings and you have an individual that doesn’t take accountability.

There is an extremely small percentage that will go to therapy and an even smaller percentage that go for the right reasons. I’ve heard a few therapists say they won’t take a narcissistic client because of the difficulty in working with them. Success is minimal and usually short term. It’s damn near impossible for someone to change if they won’t take any accountability for their actions.

They feel bad for the pain they feel, not the pain you feel.

Most narcissists may not know the term “narcissist” and certainly would not identify themselves with this term because they would have to admit they are not superior, they are not a God, and the world does not revolve around them. They would also have to admit that the person most people believe them to be is fake. They created a persona that could get them what they wanted in life and they play a role everyday.

No, no, no. They would never accept they are a narcissist. They believe the world should revolve around them and they find people that will enable that fantasy so that it feels true. They feel entitled to manipulate you in order for their world to work like they want it, they know it wouldn’t work out for them otherwise so their number one skill is manipulation. Many people could never imagine the lengths they would go to make you believe something.

There are only a few people that get to see under that mask, and these are people they abuse.

They may not accept the term narcissist or that their reality is distorted, but they do know some behaviors can cause them problems and are not aligned with the character they play, so they will hide them and only a few people get to see under that mask, these are the people that experience their abuse. They make a choice as to when, where, and who to abuse and what manipulations to apply.
