Narcissistic Abuse Healing
You're not broken — your body has been in survival mode for far too long.
Why Narcissistic Abuse is Trauma & Why It Lives in the Body?
There’s a reason narcissistic abuse is often called invisible abuse. You might not have visible scars, but the impact runs deep. It shows up in how you question yourself, how you second-guess your instincts, how you learned to stay alert just to feel okay.
If you’ve lived with gaslighting, emotional manipulation, coercive control, or long-term psychological harm, your nervous system was shaped by that.
This kind of abuse doesn’t just hurt your heart — it teaches your body how to survive. It’s not only about what happened to you, it’s about how your system had to adapt in order to get through it. Over time, your body learned patterns that kept you safe in the moment, even if they now feel like they’re holding you back.
Nothing about this means you’re broken. It's your body's intelligent response to trauma.
How Somatic Trauma-Informed Coaching Supports Healing
Somatic trauma-informed coaching isn’t about reliving the past. It’s about gently helping your body feel safe enough to let go of what it’s been carrying.
We work with your system — not against it. Through embodied practices, nervous system support, and compassionate coaching, we create space for your body to release at its own pace. Nothing is forced. Nothing is rushed. Healing happens because your system finally feels supported, not because you push harder.
This work isn’t about dissecting your story or making you revisit things before you’re ready. It’s about listening — really listening — to what your body has been trying to communicate all along, and honoring the pace that feels safe for you.
Every part of you has a reason for being here. Your system adapted intelligently. And when it’s met with safety, respect, and compassion, it knows how to soften, release, and move forward.
Having completed an ICF and CPD Accredited Somatic Trauma Informed Coaching, which is Internal Family Systems (IFS) informed, meaning we acknowledge and work with the different parts of you that have developed to protect you along the way.
Our Past, Present, and Future Lives for Healing and Growth
Healing from narcissistic abuse isn’t linear — and it doesn’t happen in just one place in time. That’s why our work gently supports who you are now, who you had to be, and who you’re becoming.
1.
Your Present Self
We start with where you are right now — what’s happening in your life, what you want support with, and helping your system feel ready for healing and growth.
2.
Your Past Self
We gently explore the parts of you that learned how to survive in the past, listening and honoring them so they can begin to soften.
3.
Your Future Self
We also work with your future self — the one you’re consciously shaping through healing and self-leadership.
Your Protector Parts
As a way to protect yourself, different parts learned to step in — perfectionism, people-pleasing, over-functioning, procrastination, self-criticism, or shutting down when things felt like too much.
These parts didn’t come from weakness. They developed during moments of stress, trauma, or emotional overwhelm as a way to keep you safe. In the context of narcissistic abuse, many of these parts worked overtime — protecting you from harm, rejection, or abandonment.
Through somatic, trauma-informed coaching that is IFS-informed, these parts are never judged or pushed away. They’re listened to. They’re understood. And they’re supported in softening when your system finally feels safe enough.
This work isn’t about fixing you because you are not broken. It’s about reconnecting you to your Self — the grounded, compassionate core within you that remains intact beneath the survival strategies.
Trauma Bonds
One of the most confusing and painful experiences for those recovering from narcissistic abuse is the trauma bond. Even when someone knows the relationship was harmful, a part of them may still feel deeply attached, hopeful, or responsible.
This is not weakness, it is a biological survival response. Trauma bonds are created through cycles of abuse, manipulation, and intermittent reinforcement, where the nervous system becomes stuck between fear and hope, pain and love.
Somatic Trauma Informed Coaching helps to untangle these deep-rooted bonds by working with the body’s attachment system and the parts that are still loyal to the person who caused harm.
These are often protective parts, trying to keep connection at any cost, because connection once felt like survival. This work helps those parts feel safe enough to begin releasing those ties, so you can reclaim clarity, boundaries, and a sense of freedom from within.
Codependency
Codependency is another common pattern that often stems from early trauma and is frequently intensified through narcissistic relationships. It can look like over giving, people pleasing, difficulty saying no, and defining your worth through others' needs or emotions. These patterns are often driven by parts of the system that believe love must be earned through self-sacrifice.
Rather than trying to “fix” codependency through behaviour alone, Somatic Trauma Informed Coaching looks at what’s underneath, the nervous system responses and protective parts that are trying to keep you safe through connection. By working with those parts and building internal safety, it becomes possible to create healthier, more reciprocal relationships from a place of self-trust and internal stability.
Parenting
Parenting with a narcissist comes with its own layer of complexity. Whether you’re “trying” to co-parent with a narcissistic ex or trying to heal while raising emotionally healthy children, the pressure can feel overwhelming. It’s common to feel guilt, fear of repeating patterns, or confusion about how to set boundaries while staying regulated.
Somatic Trauma Informed Coaching provides a space where those challenges can be explored with compassion and practicality. By working with your nervous system and internal parts, you’ll learn how to hold boundaries without shutting down, manage triggers more effectively, and model emotional regulation for your children.
The aim isn’t perfect parenting, it’s present, grounded parenting, where your healing becomes a foundation for theirs.
