I’m not able to get into therapy at this time. Is it possible to heal without professional help?
Yes, you can. Many survivors that started speaking up about narcissism, before it was a popular term, had to find a way to heal without professional or expert help because it simply did not exist. They found what worked for them and started teaching others how to heal.
While you can take the journey on your own, it can be lonely and seem like you are not making progress at times, so don’t be so hard on yourself. It is one of the hardest journeys you will take.
A few benefits of working with someone could be faster healing because they have the experience and tools and can see your blind spots, which you may not see for some time working alone. Also, talking to someone who completely understands what you are going through can be so healing.
Therapy is very beneficial but you must take control of your healing. Working with the wrong therapist can be invalidating and re-traumatizing, so when you are able to get into therapy, make sure they understand victims of domestic and narcissistic abuse. And don’t be afraid to change therapists if you feel you need to.
